The young Krishna was popularly known as Bal Gopala. As a youthful adolescent, Krishna loved and relished homemade butter known as βmaakhanβ churned by the milkmaids. He would often sneak into their homes and feast on their pots of butter and was lovingly called βMaakhan Chorβ or the butter thief! This gold-plated coin captures Krishna in the act of eating a scoop of butter. The image of the child Krishna is finely embossed on this coin and framed by a border embellished with enamel.
