This unusual, octagonal-shaped coin depicts the finely embossed image of Ganesh on one side and an elegant 'Om'- the seed sound of creation on the other side. Encased in a delicately ornamental border is the Shree Ganesh, the remover of all obstacles and the god of auspicious beginnings. In accordance with a boon granted by Lord Shiva, Ganesh is the first among all the gods to be propitiated and invoked before the beginning of every ceremonial pooja or ritual. Here he is depicted seated on a silver pedestal alongside which sits his celestial vehicle - the mouse.
