| Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: It is the story of the river of time that flows from past into the present and goes ahead into the future overcoming the hindrances on the way. Diwan Saheb (Prithviraj Kapoor), his son Ram (Raj Kapoor) and Ram’s son Rajesh (Randhir Kapoor) they are the symbols of the past, present and future-Yesterday Today and Tomorrow. They differ from each other according to the generation they represent. Diwan Saheb lives in the past. He lives a static life enjoying peace and stability. His grandson Rajesh belongs to Jet Age and believes in speed. He studies in London. While Diwan Saheb is happy and contented and Rajesh is ambitious and hopeful Ram who represents the present is leading a listless dejected life. He has everything-money, fame and all- that one desire in this worldly material life but there is nobody whom he can call his own. He calls his son Rajesh from London. When he returns Ram’s joys knows no bounds. Ram also wants his father to come. And Rajesh succeeds in inducing his grandfather to come to the city. Ram is happy. He has brought about a union of three generations-the Past the Present and the Future. The happiness however is short lived. Hardly two days go by when the grandfather and grandson start quarreling.
